We May Never

Thoughts on the coronavirus, March 2020

We may never have this time again
When there’s community
And zen.
Birds’ behaviour is changing
The deer are running free
Nature’s rearranging…
There’s sadness and despair
But beneath it all
People care.
The volunteers
That want to help
Cause hopeful tears.

There’s loss, and pain
But through change
We may gain.
The change from ‘me’
And ‘the individual’
To the ‘us’ and ‘we’…
Industry is coming alive
Helping support,
Helping people thrive.
Good will in the air
A focus
On welfare.

In our homes, our mission
Is to help
Through omission.
Stay home, stay fine
To save lives
Of others, and the front line.
With this bigger purpose in mind
Adjusting, each on our own
We support humankind.
How long this may go on
We don’t know
But there will be a new dawn.

Through this pain
Can we evolve?
And learn, and gain?
Global transformation
Could come
Across each nation.
In time our hurt will heal
And we’ll have learned
How to feel.
And maybe, in the future, then
We’ll learn from this
And long to feel this together again…
